The card serves as a free travel pass for buses and trains in the Black Forest tourist region, from Pforzheim to Basel, from Karlsruhe to Waldshut, across nine transport networks – as often as you like during your holiday and completely free of charge! So no one needs to worry about transport costs or tickets.

The KONUS guest card for the Black Forest is currently available at around 150 tourist accommodation providers in the region; all you need to do is register with your accommodation provider. This means that around 9,000 accommodation providers issue their guests with a free travel pass on arrival, valid for buses and trains in the Black Forest tourist area. The KONUS guest card is valid for the specified duration of stay, on public transport, on all buses and trains of the participating transport networks as a 2nd-class ticket, as well as on trams and buses in the cities of Freiburg and Karlsruhe. Excluded are ICE, IC, EC and ECE services, as well as ski lifts.
Please note: bear in mind that certain types of accommodation, such as some youth hostels and clinics, are exempt from tourist tax and that the KONUS guest card cannot therefore be issued by these establishments. We recommend enquiring about the KONUS guest card at your accommodation before booking!

The KONUS guest card is valid for the specified duration of your stay and entitles you to travel on public transport in second class on all buses and trains operated by the nine regional transport networks in the Black Forest.
This excludes ICE, IC, EC and ECE trains, as well as mountain railways or ski lifts.
The KONUS guest card is only valid from the moment you arrive at your accommodation (check-in) until the day of your departure. The KONUS card can be used on departure, but not on arrival.
The KONUS guest card is issued in a specific person’s name and is therefore non-transferable. The KONUS card is only valid when accompanied by an official photo ID. For children travelling alone who require their own ticket, the following documents, amongst others, are accepted as proof of identity: student card, child’s passport, identity card, health insurance card. You must always present the identity document of the person whose name appears on the KONUS guest card.
Yes, of course! If you have registered as a group with your accommodation provider but wish to use the KONUS card for individual members of the group, you can obtain individual KONUS cards from your accommodation provider by handing in your KONUS group card. We recommend that you ask at the time of booking whether individual KONUS cards can be issued, if you do not always travel as a group.
The KONUS travel card is generally intended for passenger transport. Pets are, of course, permitted on board, but the conditions of carriage applicable to their presence are determined by the specific rules of each transport network.

The KONUS card is valid only on 2nd-class public transport within the designated KONUS zone.

Yes, you can also obtain the KONUS guest card in digital form. To do so, you will need to provide an email address and choose a password. Please contact your accommodation or the tourist office in your KONUS municipality for more information about this digital service.
PLEASE NOTE: The digital KONUS guest card service is currently being rolled out; therefore, your accommodation may not yet be able to provide you with the KONUS guest card in digital form. By the end of 2026, all KONUS municipalities should be able to issue the digital KONUS guest card; we thank you for your understanding.
