Arriving at your destination and switching off the engine. Simply being able to enjoy the countryside, sip your wine and sit in cosy taverns, walking as far as you like. Exactly this makes a holiday the pleasure it should be. Or arriving directly by rail and making bus or tram connections - without having to care about the tickets. In the Black Forest it is possible. Holidaymakers in Germany's south west travel through most parts of the region with public transport for free.
Making your holiday even more relaxed: travelling with KONUS
According to Christopher Krull, KONUS is a "unique dimension in guest service in Europe". Since the beginning of 2008 the Managing Director of Schwarzwald Tourismus GmbH (STG) in Freiburg has struck deals with more than 100 municipalities, including about 6000 hotels and guesthouses, and nine public transport systems. KONUS stands for „KOstenlose NUtzung des öffentlichen Nahverkehrs für Schwarzwaldurlauber“ (free use of public transport services).
With this service the Black Forest strengthens its reputation as the most service oriented and environmentally friendly holiday region. STG-boss Krull is sure that the holiday region between Karlsruhe in the north and Basel in the south, the Swabian Alb in the east and the Rhine in the west has become more attractive to its guests as a result of this development.
